Is it just Me or do the Naval Rank have a StarTrek look to them in their design?

in RL it takes longer to be a sargeant then a lt. Its all realitive, it takes a life time to reach the highest officers rank, and the same for getting to the highest non-com. you dont see 19 year old sargeants do you? only like 30-60 year old sargeants. and vice versa for navy ranks. just because their not officers dosint mean they can claw through the ranks any faster.
they do look a bit trekish. like ToS but they are based on real pips aswell. Real pips in the US navy look mutch the same.

Its acctualy a cros between TOS and TNG. But the Pilot ones are based on the Canadian tri-servis patches.

No, I think if you look closely to the quantity john, you'll notice they are inline, like the captain rank isn't the 1+.05+1 thing, which is associated with lt. cmdr, its four stripes, like TNG, take a look im sure you'll see it there, even fleet captains on track with TNG pips.

I think he ment that the TOS ones are wavy. but thes ones are strait. But yes each line is a TNG pip.

TNG used dots though, not lines. that was ToS. and DS9 had the curved pips. like the background that their on is curved. i ment the dress uniform style, likw whats on hibrina, they are curved. i don't mean the rank marks themselves, i ment what their on. its supposed to be curved.

Its was only TOS that had the ranks on the sleeves, plus after TNG, DS9 and VOY used pips.
The Naval ranks reminded Me of the ones worn in TOS, thats why I said it.

Yes, I can see why they remind you of that, but the thing with them is as much as they look similar, the quantity of stripes to the quantity of stripes in TOS doesn't match up, the quantity corresponds to the TNG pips, even though these aren't pips. And also, I didn't think we had shoulder/neck pips, I thought that the ranks were all sleeve ones, are they only sleeve? or do we have neck and/ or shoulder ones too?

WEll if you look at my Micro(I just noticed I forgot the rank on yours Conor...my bad. ) You see that I have it on both sleves and the left solder, where an epolet should be. on the right side ther is a epolet with one large silver button and 3 small silver pins. the epolet on the right is standar to all ranks and positions. But the Mariens and the Pilots have them on the uper arm. like the position of US army patches.

Right, right I see, so then there is a whole other set of ranks for the shoulder then is there? or are they identical to the sleeve ones?
